Carlos Ayala, M.D.’99, is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force. In 2011 he was a member of the 455th Expeditionary Medical Group and the Chief of Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), Facial Plastic Surgery at Craig Joint Theater Hospital in Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. He served as the only ENT surgeon who specializes as a facial plastic surgeon in that country. He currently is the Chief of Facial Plastic Surgery at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada.
James Michael Jackson, M.D.’87, is an orthopedic surgeon who developed primary progressive multiple sclerosis four years ago. It abruptly ended his beloved surgical career. He lives in Huntington Beach with his wife and two children. Dr. Jackson will discuss the difficulties of the diagnosis and the silver lining that has developed into a bright rewarding future.
Kirsten Tillisch, M.D.’97, is Assistant Professor at UCLA’s Gail and Gerald Oppenheimer Family Center for Neurobiology of Stress in the Division of Digestive Diseases, Department of Medicine. Her life’s work has been in the area of functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, specifically irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). She is very interested in understanding the way that the brain-gut connection influences the development of IBS and affects its treatment.
Chris Wilson, M.D.’72 is a pediatrician and immunologist. He joined the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2009 and currently serves as the director of Global Health Discovery program. He leads a team that targets fundamental scientific and technology advances in global health that could lead to new ways to prevent, treat, and diagnosis disease.
