  • Thank You Letter

Dear Class of 1961,

My name is Supriya Bavisetty, and I am a fourth-year medical student at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Thank you very much for choosing me as a Class Scholar! I feel extremely grateful and honored to be receiving this scholarship. I chose to pursue medicine, since I felt it seamlessly integrated my academic, personal, and spiritual goals. Currently, I am applying for pediatric residencies with an interest in working in developing countries.

UCLA has provided a strong foundation in my medical training. I have conducted research in pediatric rare diseases with Dr. Shahram Yazdani since 2007. I took an active role in the Pediatrics Interest Group during my second year as a Mentor Coordinator. The students at UCLA are truly an inspiration; we accomplish so much when we work together. I have cherished the opportunities to volunteer with fellow students with the UCLA mobile clinic and health fairs. Outside of UCLA, I volunteer in medical camps held in Oxnard and Corona and with a weekly free clinic partnered with Venice Family Clinic in conjunction with a spiritual organization whose primary focus is community service. Most recently, I went to Haiti as part of a medical mission providing care to the earthquake-stricken areas of Port-au-Prince. Through the process of serving the underserved, I have further enriched my educational experience.

I truly believe that the "end of education is character." I feel fortunate to be receiving an excellent medical education at UCLA with dedicated and outstanding faculty guiding research and student organizations and supporting learning during our four years of medical school. I am extremely grateful to receive this scholarship from the Medical Alumni Association, Class of 1961. This honor further encourages me to pursue my dreams in medicine and to always aim higher. Thank you, again, for your kind support and recognition!

Sincerely,

Supriya Bavisetty, MS4
