Supriya Bavisetty, Class of 2011

Supriya Bavisetty, Class of 2011, was born in Los Angeles, the second of three children of a software engineer father and a homemaker mother. During a childhood visit to her parents’ homeland, Supriya visited the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Science, a temple of healing staffed by volunteer doctors who give free medical service to all who need it. Inspired by the ideals of truth, peace, and right action, she dedicated herself to the practice of medicine among the underserved.

Following her graduation as Salutatorian of her class at Culver City High School, Supriya enrolled at the University of Southern California, where she undertook a Biomedical Engineering major with a minor in Nutrition and Health Promotion. Her research activities included work at the Doheny Eye Institute and as a research associate in traumatic brain injury at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. She graduated magna cum laude and received the “Order of Troy” for extraordinary service to the campus community. Supriya then moved across town to the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where she has continued to be a leader in academics, in the community, and in research. She volunteers with numerous medical camps and health fairs, works with disabled children, and is the Pediatrics Interest Group mentor coordinator.

Supriya is a bright, compassionate, and dedicated woman who made a lifetime decision to pursue medicine for the underserved and has never wavered from that path. She will continue to be a shining star within the medical community, and we are pleased to present Supriya Bavisetty as the recipient of the Class of 1961 Scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year.
