Thank You Letter

Dear Class of 1975,

My name is Caitlin McGrath, and I am a second year medical student at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. It is with much gratitude that I write to thank you for supporting me as the Class of 1975 Medical Student Scholar for 2011-12.

Although I have dreamed of becoming a doctor since childhood, I sometimes find it hard to believe that I am actually on the road to realizing this dream. It has been challenging, yet exhilarating, and the support of my classmates has been essential. From learning how to conduct a cardiovascular exam to mastering the brachial plexus, we have worked in teams in preparation for the collaboration we will undertake as physicians. Moreover, UCLA’s supportive community extends far beyond the students and faculty. From my first week as a medical student, I have been amazed at the enthusiastic role that medical alumni play through events such as the White Coat Ceremony and Conference on Career Choices. It means so much to have the encouragement of seasoned professionals like you as we begin to navigate the ins and outs of our profession and choose a specialization.

Outside of the classroom, I have had the opportunity to participate in many other enriching activities. I am the coordinator for the Pediatrics Interest Group and am involved with RENEW, an organization that arranges for unused medical supplies to be sent to developing countries. In addition, I enjoy serving the homeless populations of Santa Monica and West Hollywood through our student-run medical clinics.

I am looking forward to my next three years here as a time to develop my medical knowledge further and define my career goals. I can hardly wait until my clinical rotations begin next year.

Again, thank you for your generous support. I hope that during the remainder of my time here I will have the chance to meet you at alumni events and express my thanks in person.
